Hi Clementine!
Today, I bought some food for a homeless lady, and this took me back to the first time I heard “Right Now” by Mike Shinoda. And yes, this is the same Mike from Linkin Park, but “Right Now” was a song from his other project “Fort Minor.”
My favorite part goes like this…
I guess one man’s trash is the next man’s treasure
One man’s pain is the next man’s pleasure
In fact, I have reflected upon these lines for so long that they are a part of me now.
I had heard this song as soon as it came out but it never stuck strongly until the day I was throwing tantrums at Maa for giving away my childhood clothes to a poor family. And all Maa said was, “If something that you don’t use anymore brings a smile to someone’s face, what is the reason to not give it away?”
And right at that moment, somehow Mike’s lines played in my mind and got stuck forever.
Still, giving away personal things hasn’t been easy for me and I would rather buy something new to donate. So, whenever I have to give away a personal item, and the pain takes over, I ask myself, “Am I looking at this act as caring for a fellow human or loss of a personal item?” Mostly, both are true, but I try to focus on the care part more than the loss.
And by the way, for the line “one man’s trash is the next man’s treasure,” if you are wondering that I might have bought the homeless woman something that was trash to me, then you are wrong!
I got her our favorite combo from KFC and sat with her! She even got a big burp like you 😉
Love
Papa
