In 1977, NASA launched two spacecrafts, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, into space with the hope that they reach the farthest depths of this universe and maybe get discovered by some other intelligent aliens. And for those aliens, we kept a gift, The Golden Record. In the words of then US president Jimmy Carter,
“This is a present from a small, distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts, and our feelings. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours.”
The Golden Record is a phonograph record kept in each Voyager spacecraft, a sort of time capsule, containing 115 images and a variety of sounds and music to portray the diverse life and culture on Earth, so that any intelligent extraterrestrial life form who may find them can witness “Humans from Earth.”

Probably, by the time it is discovered by aliens, humans will be long gone (or be spread across the universe), but hopefully, in this endeavor, they will see our hopes and the spirit to reach for the stars. Hopefully, they will be wiser to realize that we, the humans, were much more than our symbols carried in the Golden Record.
