You just need a simple tweak. Do your biggest tasks first thing in the day and keep lower priority things for later. This will help you get more things done effectively.
Start with visualizing what it means for you. For example, at the office, it could mean that you do not start responding to your emails as soon as you reach the office. You rather start with a big project or brainstorm ideas and visit your mails at a later time block.
This mission only focuses on the first few blocks of your day. But if you are already good at this and want a bigger challenge, then you can plan your whole day’s time blocks in sync with the circadian rhythm. Here is what it could look like:
Set the tone of your day: Perform morning rituals after waking up
Cognitive Peak #1: Do the highest priority (preferably mentally demanding) task first
Slump #1: Around 2 PM, take a nap for 20-30 min. If a nap is not possible, do simpler tasks, like mails, or anything with a checklist so you can avoid mistakes
Cognitive Peak #2: Switch to brainstorming, important meetings, or logical work as your cognition gets a boost in the evening again
Slump #2: Finish off the day by keeping digital devices away at least 1 hour before bed, and perform night rituals to wind down before sleep
Above all, whenever you do a task, ask yourself, “Am I working with my body’s rhythm or against it?”
