To strengthen your relationship with the present, start small. Apply yourself to even the smallest activities: When listening to someone, just listen. When reading, just read. When running, just run. When eating, just eat. Do not think about how much time is left or has passed, or what you have done, and what to do next.

It sounds simple but needs rewiring the mind. And rewiring is not taming. It is friendship, instead of forcing, otherwise, you risk the mind’s rebellion. Just observe the mind as it wanders across time, like in meditation, and tell it that “present” is all that is there. Handle it with love and understanding, as you would with a child.

That’s all! With these small changes, you will see how slowly each activity becomes more effective and fulfilling. You do not think in “time” anymore but simply immerse in experiences. You operate with an expanded perception of the present, just like when listening to music you are neither listening to the past nor the future.
